Name: Giulietta Tolomei
Canon: Juliet: A Novel
Original or Alternate Universe: Original
Canon Point: Masquerade, after asking Romeo to murder Salimbeni
Number: Would you mind RNG-ing one for her? (And, if at all possible, making sure it’s an even number? I have a weird thing about numbers…)
Setting: 14th century Earth in Italy. There’s nothing particularly special about the setting aside from the century it’s in, otherwise it’s intended to be just the same as ours.
History: Giulietta grew up in the Italian countryside as one of two daughters to the wealthy and powerful Tolomei family. (More popularly known in later retellings of her story as ‘Capulet’ and her name being simplified to simply ‘Juliet’.)
Her twin, Giannozza, was often her confidant. The two were inseparable and the yin to the other’s yang. As they aged, Giulietta wanted less and less to get married. Spirited and a spitfire, she wanted to put off being tied down for as long as possible. She got her wish, as Giannozza was the first to be married off, just a year before. The girls remained faithful penpals, Giannozza able to write her sister often as their father was a strange man and had insisted that they learn to read and write when they were still young.
A year after Giannozza was married off, Giulietta’s family was murdered in cold blood and it was by luck that she did not suffer the same fate. The Salimbeni family slaughtered Giulietta’s parents and brothers and anyone that stood in their way, it was only because she was in confession that she was spared the slaughter. Friar Lorenzo, to whom she confessed, managed to save her and they began their journey to deliver her to her Aunt and Uncle, by way of coffin in a cart.
The cart was attacked on the way to Siena by Salimbeni’s men and it was only because of Romeo Marescotti and his companions that they survived the encounter. Romeo escorted Friar Lorenzo to Maestro Ambrogio’s after being assured that the body in the casket was a dead monk’s, but after opening it, fell in love with the image of the believed dead young woman.
As Romeo left, Giulietta opened her eyes and she and Friar Lorenzo informed the Maestro of what happened to her family and that she needed to be smuggled into the Palazzo Tolomei, into the safety of her Aunt and Uncle’s care. Giulietta wants nothing but revenge on the man that murdered her family, but her family intended to go on with life as though nothing had happened. Giulietta attended mass, whispers went around town about the lovely niece of the Tolomei’s who had appeared. They even went as far as to host dinners and masques that she cared nothing for. Giulietta lingered at the balcony of the room, watching the group with a cold detachment, when Romeo spotted her.
He found her and immediately waxed poetically, irritating her and causing her anger. How dare he toy with her in such a way. Still, as he enthused his desire for her, she refuted it and mocked him for acting as such. He proclaimed to do anything to prove his love for her and she told him she would give him whatever he pleased if he did her one favor.
Kill Salimbeni to avenge her family’s death.
Personality: Outwardly, Giulietta is cold and detached. There was no question that at one point, the young woman was lively and full of youth. Carefree, even. Giulietta has no time to worry over the more trivial things in life any longer, she reserves a cold anger towards those who treat time with such a jolly outlook. She cannot be afforded such luxuries until the man that murdered her family has paid for his crimes. It’s because of her cold demeanor and anger that she appears so detached from the world, preferring to be a wallflower instead of in the mix of things at parties.

She cannot be afforded such luxuries until the man that murdered her family has paid for his crimes. It’s because of her cold demeanor and anger that she appears so detached from the world, preferring to be a wallflower instead of in the mix of things at parties.
A woman of God, Giulietta is extremely religious and attends mass and confession frequently. She puts her faith in God and the Virgin Mary to watch over and protect her, though she does not rely on that faith completely. She believes that if you want something done, you must do whatever you can within your own powers, with the blessing giving you the strength to do so. Her rage has her so desperate to exact revenge that she will go to lengths to ask grand promises of perfect strangers.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations: Giulietta is just a 16 year old girl, she has no special abilities to speak of. Her idea of special abilities includes her ability to read and write, as in her time, that’s not usual. She’s not particularly strong, physically, but what she lacks, she makes up with fervor. She’s not the type of girl to sit around and do nothing, the closest she gets to do that is by going to mass or confession.
Inventory: A simple daygown, her rosary and a period accurate nightgown.
Appearance: Giulietta is a young woman of remarkable beauty, according to the man that fell in love with her while she was supposedly a corpse. Light skinned, blonde hair and fair of frame. Her eyes are a piercing bright blue, often full of anger and hate for the man that murdered her family.
As she is from a novel, Giulietta has no face given to her for visual purposes. As such, I will be using Ashley Benson. She has a good range of expressions and embodies that 'angelic' look that Maestro Ambrogio tried to capture in his paintings of her... Or at least as Romeo describes her to be.

Giulietta in no way believed herself to be a strong woman. Nor did she believe that Salimbeni would arrive in this strange place. Still, she could not guarantee that Romeo, that sweet, dear knight of hers, would go through with her request in her absence. After all, if she were absent, how would he collect his prize from her after murdering the beast?
It was because of this that Giulietta found it necessary that in this vacation upon a strange vessel in space (oh how her dearest Friar Lorenzo would be amazed by this! She would do well to journal these adventures and bring them back for him upon her return home), she would do well to build her physical strength. This is something she would not have the luxury of doing back home… To learn to use a sword or even request to learn to fight in any form would be frowned upon by her ridiculous Aunt and Uncle.
The gymnasium was also something completely foreign to her. So here she stood, surveying the machinery with a cold look on her face, trying to figure out how to do what… And what would be the most helpful in her circumstance. Surely there would be someone around able to train her with a sword or with one of these machines. The question remained, would she remember any of these learned skills upon returning home or would they be lost to her as though this were but a distant dream?

Though there are no names to our days, nor sun to rise and set, I still find it important to devote my attention to God and the Virgin Mary on a somewhat frequent basis. I merely wonder aloud whether there is any place I may do so, or if I would find company in my devotions.
[She pauses a beat, as though considering what she says next before actually speaking it.]
Otherwise, may I request assistance on learning how to use the equipment provided in the gymnasium? I do not even know where to begin, truly.
Giulietta relied so heavily on her family that when Salimbeni murdered them in cold blood, she believes whole-heartedly that he is wicked. Upset that she was not there to be with her dying parents and brothers, and even more upset that the man’s henchmen got away, she places much of the blame on herself though there is likely little she could have done to prevent this. Friar Lorenzo has done his best to try and calm her, to talk her out of her rage, but she has done little to heed his warnings. She trusts him with her life, but she refuses to yield and knows with all her heart that, as she is so devoted in her prayers to the Virgin Mary, and so devout a follower, she will bless her no matter the outcome. Giulietta, who has seen her family die at the hands of a cowardly man, is ready to die along with him if she must, so that he may pay for what he’s done. He has essentially turned her world upside down, and she did not feel safe until she was within the walls of Palazzo Tolomei in Siena that she felt as though she could breathe, and even then it was constricted as the man was in the same city and she needed to see him punished for what he had done. He took away everything she had except for her sister and Friar Lorenzo... and he would've seen her dead if she hadn't been in confession during the brutal assault.
It’s not until after she asks her cold request of Romeo that she feels remorse for doing so. While she would like nothing more than to see Salimbeni dead, she does not wish to do so at the cost of another. It was with every intention of relieving him of this duty that she managed to sleep that night, planning to visit him and repair her request the following day…. What a brainless boy he had to be to agree to her request for vengeance so quickly.
Giulietta is a spitfire. She’s a young woman that has seen much tragedy and is not afraid to speak her mind. She will call someone out on their actions, she will curse and spit on those who dare disrespect her or her family. She’s not a damsel in distress, but she will play the part gladly if it will win her revenge. She has issues with her family dealing with this, as she still has to put on the face of a proper woman. Her Aunt, in particular, finds this aspect of her personality distressing and is intent on getting her to adhere to a more societal norm. Despite as much as Giulietta wants to believe she’s in charge of her own fate, she is still just a 16 year old girl that is under the watch of her family. (She may have developed this “in charge of my own destiny” attitude from the fact that her parents had married Giannozza off first and had shown little interest in sending her away to be married anytime soon, or at least before they had met their untimely deaths.) They choose what she does, who she sees and who she marries…. And that she should marry fast, since she is, as she puts it, a wilting flower. As much as Giulietta is intent on being her own savior or choosing the person who will, she also recognizes the importance of her Aunt and Uncle’s protection. She complies to their whims, albeit grudgingly, and if left unchecked, will fall into her devil-may-care attitude.
Underneath it all, she is still just a 16 year old girl that has been through way too much all at once. It’s left her alone and upset, and the way she’s channeling it is through rage and bloodthirst. Hiding even under that, Giulietta has a caring and charming personality, though few may even see it at this point. She has a lot of baggage to get past first, before anyone can see her more carefree nature shine through.
